To reach the tidal bench marks from the intersection of U.S. Highway 206 and
County Road 650 (Lalor Street) proceed 1.9 km (1.2 mi) west on Lalor Street to
Lamberton Street, turn left onto Lamberton Street and go 0.6 km (0.4 mi) south
to Trenton Marine Terminal Park.  The bench marks are located in the park, along
Lamberton Street, and in the vicinity of a sewage disposal plant.  The tide gage
and the electric tape gage were located at the south end of the park.

Trenton Marine Terminal Park, 27.28 m (89.5 ft) north of the south end of the
bulkhead, 13.47 m (44.2 ft) WNW of the NW corner of the chain link fence around
the parking lot, 4.42 m (14.5 ft) west of the west edge of an asphalt roadway,
0.61 m (2.0 ft) east of the west edge of the bulkhead, 0.49 m (1.6 ft) SE of the
second bollard from the south, and 0.06 m (0.2 ft) above ground level.

The bench mark is a disk set flush in the south end of the concrete foundation
of the garage door of the most southerly of two warehouses on the east side of
Lamberton Street, 14.54 m (47.7 ft) south of a fire hydrant, 9.33 m (30.6 ft)
east of the centerline of Lamberton Street, 6 m (20 ft) north of the SW corner
of the most southerly of two tin warehouses, and 0.18 m (0.6 ft) west of the
west face of the warehouse.

The bench mark is a disk located on the east side of Lamberton Street in the
vicinity of Trenton Marine Terminal, 35 m (116 ft) south of a fire hydrant,
13.01 m (42.7 ft) NW of the SW angle in the chain link fence around the west
side of a sewage treatment plant, 8.02 m (26.3 ft) east of the centerline of
Lamberton Street, 2.23 m (7.3 ft) west of the west face of a chain link fence,
and 1.07 m (3.5 ft) east of the west edge of the curb. The bench mark is set
level with the ground, crimped to the top of a stainless steel rod driven 7.3 m
(24 ft) to refusal, and encased in a 6-inch PVC pipe and concrete kickblock.

The bench mark is a disk located on the SE corner of the intersection of
Lamberton Street and a road leading to a sewage plant, 22.86 m (75.0 ft) east of
the centerline of Lamberton Street, 15.12 m (49.6 ft) NE of a fire hydrant, 5.30
m (17.4 ft) south of the centerline of the road leading to a sewage plant, and
0.82 m (2.7 ft) north of the corner of a chain link fence.  The bench mark is
set level with the ground, crimped to the top of a stainless steel rod driven
7.9 m (26 ft) to refusal, and encased in a 6-inch PVC pipe and concrete
kickblock.

The bench mark is a disk located on the north side of a sewage treatment plant
outside the corner in the chain link fence surrounding the plant, 76 m (250 ft)
east of the centerline of Lamberton Street, 9.57 m (31.4 ft) south of the
centerline of the road leading to the plant, 0.98 m (3.2 ft) north of the
east-west segment of the chain link fence, and 0.98 m (3.2 ft) east of the
north-south segment of the fence.  The bench mark is set 6 cm (0.2 ft) below
ground level, crimped to the top of a stainless steel rod driven 6.1 m (20 ft)
to refusal, and encased in a 6-inch PVC pipe and concrete kickblock.

The bench mark is a disk located in the vicinity of the restrooms at Trenton
Marine Terminal Park, 37.49 m (123.0 ft) NNE of the north corner of the
restrooms, 13.41 m (44.0 ft) east of a chain link fence on the river bank, 12.74
m (41.8 ft) west of the centerline of Lamberton Street, 6.68 m (21.9 ft) west of
power pole #62190TN, and 0.46 m (1.5 ft) south of a guy wire anchor.  The bench
mark is crimped to the top of a stainless steel rod driven 7.6 m (25 ft) to
refusal, and encased in a 5-inch PVC pipe and concrete kickblock.

                             D E F I N I T I O N S


Mean Sea Level (MSL) is a tidal datum determined over a 19-year National Tidal
Datum Epoch.  It pertains to local mean sea level and should not be confused
with the fixed datums of North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).

NAVD88 is a fixed datum derived from a simultaneous, least squares, minimum
constraint adjustment of Canadian/Mexican/United States leveling observations.
Local mean sea level observed at Father Point/Rimouski, Canada was held fixed as
the single initial constraint.  NAVD88 replaces NGVD29 as the national
standard geodetic reference for heights.  Bench mark elevations relative to
NAVD88 are available from NGS through the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NGVD29 is a fixed datum adopted as a national standard geodetic reference for
heights but is now considered superseded.  NGVD29 is sometimes referred to as
Sea Level Datum of 1929 or as Mean Sea Level on some early issues of Geological
Survey Topographic Quads.  NGVD29 was originally derived from a general
adjustment of the first-order leveling networks of the U.S. and Canada after
holding mean sea level observed at 26 long term tide stations as fixed.
Numerous local and wide-spread adjustments have been made since establishment in
1929.  Bench mark elevations relative to NGVD29 are available from the National
Geodetic Survey (NGS) data base via the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NAVD88 and NGVD29 are fixed geodetic datums whose elevation relationships to
local MSL and other tidal datums may not be consistent from one location to
another.

The Vertical Mark Number (VM#) and PID# shown on the bench mark sheet are unique
identifiers for bench marks in the tidal and geodetic databases, respectively.
Each bench mark in either database has a single, unique VM# and/or PID# assigned.
Where both VM# and PID# are indicated, both tidal and geodetic elevations are
available for the bench mark listed. The NGS's Integrated Data Base (IDB PID)
provides geodetic datum based on traditionally leveled and bluebooked ties to
the National Spatial Reference System(NSRS) https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/datasheets/.
The NGS Online Positioning User Service (OPUS PID) provides geodetic datum based
on GPS position & tie it to the NSRS https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/OPUS/.

The NAVD88 elevation is shown on the Elevations of Tidal Datums Table Referred
to MLLW only when two or more of the bench marks listed have NAVD88 elevations.
The NAVD88 elevation relationship shown in the table is derived from an average
of several bench mark elevations relative to tide station datum.  As a result of
this averaging, NAVD88 bench mark elevations computed indirectly from the tidal
datums elevation table may differ slightly from NAVD88 elevations listed for
each bench mark in the NGS database.
