To reach the tidal bench marks from the San Juan International Airport, proceed
west on Highway 26 for 9 miles (14 km) until it merges with Highway 1, turn left
onto Highway 1 (Avenida Fernandez Juncos) and continue to its end at the
waterfront, turn right and proceed along the waterfront for 0.5 mile (0.8
km) past the cruise ship terminal to the U.S. Customs Service building, turn
left and continue for 0.3 mile (0.5 km) to the U.S. Coast Guard station main
gate. The bench marks are on the U.S. Coast Guard compound. Two bench marks
(NO 13 1962 and NO 14 1962) are at the Puerto Rico Dry Dock and Maritime Company
(former U.S. Navy Base) at Santuree, about 3 miles (5 km) east of the U.S. Coast
Guard compound. The tide gage and staff are on the southern tip of the U.S.
Coast Guard compound.

of the U.S. Coast Guard compound, 67.0 feet (20.4 m) south of a steel flag pole,
20.1 feet (6.1 m) NW of the north corner of the NOS tide house, 3.1 feet (0.9 m)
NE of the SW face of the sea wall, and 0.8 foot (0.2 m) above the ground.

Rico Dry Dock and Maritime Company, 105.5 feet (32.2 m) west of the east face of
the tender pier, 1.3 feet (0.4 m) west of the NE corner of the platform, and 3
feet (1 m) above the ground.

face of the pier, 25 feet (8 m) west of the centerline of the pier, and 9.4 feet
(2.9 m) east of the NE corner of a 9 x 20-foot (3 x 6 m) concrete latrine at the
pier.

Mean Sea Level (MSL) is a tidal datum determined over a 19-year National
Tidal Datum Epoch. It pertains to local mean sea level and should not be
confused with any other fixed island datum.
This tide station location has a defined island datum (PRVD02). Island datums
are specific fixed geodetic datums whose elevation relationship to local MSL
and other tidal datums may not be consistent from one location to another.
The Vertical Mark Number (VM#) and PID# shown on the bench mark sheet are unique
identifiers for bench marks in the tidal and geodetic databases, respectively.
Each bench mark in either database has a single, unique VM# and/or PID# assigned.
Where both VM# and PID# are indicated, both tidal and geodetic elevations are
available for the bench mark listed.
The PRVD02 elevation is shown on the Elevations of Tidal Datums Table Referred
to MLLW only when two or more of the bench marks listed have PRVD02 elevations.
The PRVD02 elevation relationship shown in the table is derived from an average
of several bench mark elevations relative to tide station datum. As a result of
this averaging, PRVD02 bench mark elevations computed indirectly from the tidal
datums elevation table may differ slightly from PRVD02 elevations listed for
each bench mark in the NGS database.
