To reach the tidal bench marks from the intersection of State Highway 41 and
County Road S-8-98 in Huger, proceed 0.1 mile (0.2 km) SW on County Road S-8-98
to the bridge over Quinby Creek.  The tidal bench marks are on the bridge and
along County Road S-8-98 north of the bridge.  The tide gage and staff were on
the east side of the bridge.

The bench mark is near an historical marker at the east end of a boat ramp
parking area at the Quinby Creek bridge, 193.7 feet (59.0 m) ENE of the NE
corner of the bridge, 28.4 feet (8.7 m) SSE of a 3-foot (1 m) diameter twin
trunk oak tree, 27.4 feet (8.4 m) NNW of the centerline of County Road S-8-98,
4.8 feet (1.5 m) SW of an historical marker, and 2.9 feet (0.9 m) NNE of a metal
witness post.  The bench mark is 1 foot (0.3 m) below road level, crimped to a
copper-clad steel rod driven 23 feet (7 m) to refusal, and encased in a 5-inch
PVC pipe and concrete kickblock.

of the SE corner of the bridge, and 1 foot (0.3 m) above road level.

92.9 feet (28.3 m) NNW of Bench Mark 3535 A 1976, 25.0 feet (7.6 m) WSW of the
abutment across the road, 12.5 feet (3.8 m) west of the centerline of County
Road S-8-98, 4.2 feet (1.3 m) SW of the NW bridge abutment, and 1 foot (0.3 m)
above road level.

The bench mark is along the NE side of County Road S-8-98 in front of the
residence at Route 1 Box 22, 249 feet (76 m) east of Bench Mark 866 C 3535 1976,
25.6 feet (7.8 m) SSE of the centerline of County Road S-8-98, 10.5 feet (3.2 m)
WSW of the centerline of the paved residence driveway, and 1.8 feet (0.5 m) ENE
of a metal witness post.  The bench mark is at grade level, crimped to a
copper-clad steel rod driven 18 feet (5 m) to refusal, and encased in a 5-inch
PVC pipe and concrete kickblock.

west of the centerline of State Highway 41, 35.7 feet (10.9 m) ESE of the NE
corner of a 4-foot square (1 m) concrete storm drain, and 8.0 feet    (2.4 m)
NNW of a 3-foot (1 m) diameter pine tree.  The bench mark is 1 foot (0.3 m)
below road level, crimped to a stainless steel rod driven 27 feet    (8 m) to
refusal, and encased in a 5-inch PVC pipe and concrete kickblock.

the centerline of State Highway 41, 24.7 feet (7.5 m) SSW of a blazed 2.0-foot
(0.6 m) diameter pine tree, 6.3 feet (1.9 m) NNE of the power pole, 1.6 feet
(0.5 m) ESE of a witness post, and 2.0 feet (0.6 m) below highway level.

                             D E F I N I T I O N S


Mean Sea Level (MSL) is a tidal datum determined over a 19-year National Tidal
Datum Epoch.  It pertains to local mean sea level and should not be confused
with the fixed datums of North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).

NAVD88 is a fixed datum derived from a simultaneous, least squares, minimum
constraint adjustment of Canadian/Mexican/United States leveling observations.
Local mean sea level observed at Father Point/Rimouski, Canada was held fixed as
the single initial constraint.  NAVD88 replaces NGVD29 as the national
standard geodetic reference for heights.  Bench mark elevations relative to
NAVD88 are available from NGS through the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NGVD29 is a fixed datum adopted as a national standard geodetic reference for
heights but is now considered superseded.  NGVD29 is sometimes referred to as
Sea Level Datum of 1929 or as Mean Sea Level on some early issues of Geological
Survey Topographic Quads.  NGVD29 was originally derived from a general
adjustment of the first-order leveling networks of the U.S. and Canada after
holding mean sea level observed at 26 long term tide stations as fixed.
Numerous local and wide-spread adjustments have been made since establishment in
1929.  Bench mark elevations relative to NGVD29 are available from the National
Geodetic Survey (NGS) data base via the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NAVD88 and NGVD29 are fixed geodetic datums whose elevation relationships to
local MSL and other tidal datums may not be consistent from one location to
another.

The Vertical Mark Number (VM#) and PID# shown on the bench mark sheet are unique
identifiers for bench marks in the tidal and geodetic databases, respectively.
Each bench mark in either database has a single, unique VM# and/or PID# assigned.
Where both VM# and PID# are indicated, both tidal and geodetic elevations are
available for the bench mark listed.

The NAVD88 elevation is shown on the Elevations of Tidal Datums Table Referred
to MLLW only when two or more of the bench marks listed have NAVD88 elevations.
The NAVD88 elevation relationship shown in the table is derived from an average
of several bench mark elevations relative to tide station datum.  As a result of
this averaging, NAVD88 bench mark elevations computed indirectly from the tidal
datums elevation table may differ slightly from NAVD88 elevations listed for
each bench mark in the NGS database.
