How to reach: To reach the tidal bench marks from Shell Point on Harkers Island, proceed by boat SSW for about 8.9 km (4.8 nm) through Barden Inlet to the Coast Guard pier near Catfish Point on Cape Lookout. The bench marks are near the pier, along the concrete road leading to the Coast Guard Station and within the Coast Guard compound about 0.6 km (0.4 mi) south of the pier. The tide station was on the pier.
